FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS AND DELIVERY FOR THE VILLAGES, FL
The Villages is a giant active adult (read retirement) community in central Florida, about a half hour's drive from Orlando.
It's one of the fastest-growing US cities. Since 2010, it has doubled in size and its current population is almost 115,000.
This community began in the 1960s when a Michigan businessman named Harold Schwartz began to sell land parcels via mail order. He had to stop after a 1968 law banned real estate sales via the mail and as a result was stuck with a lot of land.
Schwartz and his partner developed a mobile home park on the land called Orange Blossom Gardens. Sales were dismal, though, and ten years later they had still only sold 400 units.
Schwartz bought out his business partner and brought on his son, H Gary Morris, in 1983.
Morris is the one that hit on the idea of turning Orange Blossom Gardens into an a retirement community.
He had observed that a number of other retirement communities were enjoying a lot of success and growth. What was unique to these successful communities was that they offered a lot of amenities to residents. They also tended to be upscale and very well maintained.
Schwartz began to buy land In the two neighboring counties with an idea to expand and create this kind of retirement community that his son had been researching.
In 1992, Morse changed the name of the development to The Villages. Today the development of the villages is still controlled by Schwartz and Morris's family.
The villages is a master-planned community, the centerpieces of which are its several golf courses. One of the campaigns for The Villages is that residents get to play free golf for life.
The villages operates 39 separate golf courses.
Twelve of the courses are country club championship courses. Arnold Palmer and Nancy Lopez are among the noted architects of these courses. Two courses are 18 hole layouts. Eight clubs are 27 hole layouts. The rest are nine hole courses.
